Heleni Linton Bursary 2017

This Bursary was established in memory of Heleni Linton, an outstanding librarian also worked for Ernst and Young Hong Kong was tragically killed in an air crash in 1991. A memorial account was later established from funds donated by Ernst and Young, by colleagues, and by friends. From December 1992, interest accrued to the account has been used to award a modest annual bursary bearing her name. The beneficiary receivers the bursary at a ceremony held every year at the association's annual general meeting.

The bursary is awarded on a competitive basis in full or part-time students of library and information science to assist in their studies. It might help with course fees, short sabbaticals, research materials costs, conference attendance, and the like. Applications for the Bursary, which amounts to HK$5,000, will be assessed by considering the potential applicability and contribution of the proposal to library and information science in our region and the likely impact of the Bursary on the career of the applicant. Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2016

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. The College now invites applications for the following position:

Assistant Librarian I - Library (Ref: ALI (LIB) 2017-02-17)

Responsibilities:

- lead the development of reference, information literacy and access services to support teaching, learning and research;
- implement strategic and operational plan, review policies and procedures for the use of the Library;
- design, deliver and assess instructional sessions;
- develop innovative activities and raise awareness of the library's services;
- facilitate effective communication with stakeholders and respond to user enquiries;
- monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the services by preparing statistics and reports; and
- provide user education and perform reference duties.

Applicants should:

- possess a recognized university degree and professional qualification in librarianship (MLS or equivalent);
- have at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in a supervisory position in academic libraries;
- have ability to effectively respond to and resolve library issues for a wide variety of library users with strong service attitude;
- have demonstrated understanding of current library services and practices in an academic setting; and
- have excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

The appointee will be required to work shifts in evenings, on weekends and public holidays. Applicants with work experience in the tertiary education sector will be an advantage.
