Heleni Linton Bursary 2017

This Bursary was established in memory of Heleni Linton, an outstanding librarian also worked for Ernst and Young Hong Kong was tragically killed in an air crash in 1991. A memorial account was later established from funds donated by Ernst and Young, by colleagues, and by friends. From December 1992, interest accrued to the account has been used to award a modest annual bursary bearing her name. The beneficiary receivers the bursary at a ceremony held every year at the association's annual general meeting.

The bursary is awarded on a competitive basis in full or part-time students of library and information science to assist in their studies. It might help with course fees, short sabbaticals, research materials costs, conference attendance, and the like. Applications for the Bursary, which amounts to HK$5,000, will be assessed by considering the potential applicability and contribution of the proposal to library and information science in our region and the likely impact of the Bursary on the career of the applicant. Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2016

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. Applications are invited for the following post:

Library Assistant (Law Library) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 201700161) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary and with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement)

Applicants should possess 5 passes in HKCEE including English (min. grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, OR a recognized certificate for library assistants OR a recognized certificate in the area of digital library/information centre management, and preferably with some relevant library and counter services experience. They should also have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), working knowledge of and skills in common software such as MS Office, presentation and visualization tools. Strong customer service and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. The appointee will be responsible for a wide range of services to library users including counter duties, legal information services, tours and orientations, user training, shelving, shelf-reading, document delivery, research support, and perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors. Shift duty on evenings, weekends and public holidays is required.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
