Heleni Linton Bursary 2017

This Bursary was established in memory of Heleni Linton, an outstanding librarian also worked for Ernst and Young Hong Kong was tragically killed in an air crash in 1991. A memorial account was later established from funds donated by Ernst and Young, by colleagues, and by friends. From December 1992, interest accrued to the account has been used to award a modest annual bursary bearing her name. The beneficiary receivers the bursary at a ceremony held every year at the association's annual general meeting.

The bursary is awarded on a competitive basis in full or part-time students of library and information science to assist in their studies. It might help with course fees, short sabbaticals, research materials costs, conference attendance, and the like. Applications for the Bursary, which amounts to HK$5,000, will be assessed by considering the potential applicability and contribution of the proposal to library and information science in our region and the likely impact of the Bursary on the career of the applicant. Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2018

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. (1) ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN II (ELECTRONIC RESOURCES) Ref:ALnII(ER)

The appointee reports to the Assistant Librarian I (Technical Services).  He/She is responsible for the development and maintenance of the electronic collection and the serials collection including evaluation and acquisition of new titles.  He/She is required to assist the Reader Services Section to prepare and deliver user education programmes to train users to make the most out of the electronic resources held by the library.  The appointee will be required to work on shift duties and in both the Wanchai and Bethanie campuses.

Applicants should:
(a) have a postgraduate qualification in librarianship or information science (MLS, MCLIP or equivalent), in addition to a bachelor's degree in different discipline;
(b) have a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience;  
(c) be familiar with issues involved in developing, acquisitions of electronic collections;
(d) have knowledge of current electronic library applications and online searching skills;
(e) possess good planning and organization skills with an analytical and proactive mind;
(f) be competent in use of Microsoft Office;
(g) have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and
(h) have effective inter-personal and communication skills.

Preference will be given to those who possess one or more of the following:
(a) Previously worked in the library of a higher educational institution.
(b) Experience in cataloguing library material.
(c) Experience in conducting user education programmes.
(d) Working knowledge of an integrated library system and familiarity with mobile devices, apps, and web 2.0 technologies for educational purposes. 

(2) DIGITAL SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY OFFICER Ref: DSTO
The postholder reports to the Assistant Librarian I (Reader Services). He/She is responsible for creating and updating text to promote library resources, services, and activities on library webpage and other library publications. He/She is also responsible for the preparation of digital content, creating and maintaining metadata for digital objects according to international metadata standards and schemas. The postholder will be required to work in both the Wanchai and Bethanie campus; and to work on evenings, weekends and public holidays, and response immediately to urgent events. 

Applicants should:
(a) have a recognized first degree and preferably in English and/or Chinese;
(b) have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience;
(c) have good command of written and spoken Chinese and English; 
(d) have excellent communication skill and strong interest in creative writing are all essential; and
(e) be attentive to details, have good time management and strong organizational skills.

Preference will be given to those who possess one or more of the following: 
(a) Previously worked in the library of a higher educational institution.
(b) Knowledge of digital library standards (e.g. Z39.50, OAI-PMH, METS and Dublin Core) and repository systems such as Digitool.
(c) Knowledge in Photoshop, WordPress, Microsoft Office, email marketing tools will be advantageous.

(3) LIBRARY ASSISTANT II (SYSTEMS) Ref: LAII(Sys)

The postholder reports to the Assistant Librarian I (Systems). He/She will be required to provide support in hardware and software installation, maintenance and trouble-shooting; administrating the inventory of Computing / AV assets; and provide technical assistance to end-users. The postholder should be prepared to perform regular shift duties in both libraries at Wanchai and Bethanie campuses, and may be required to work on weekends and on public holidays.

Applicants should have:
(a) at least 5 subjects at Grade E (at least Grade C if Syllabus A)/Level 2 or above in the HKCEE/HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics, OR a Higher Diploma / Associate Degree; 
(b) at least 2 years' relevant experience in installing, configuring and maintaining computer hardware and software, in particular Windows and Mac platforms in a library setting or similar environment;
(c) knowledge in Audio / Video editing and media conversion;
(d) capability in working independently and within a team environment; and
(e) good analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, with service-oriented work attitude.

Preference will be given to those who have previous working experience in the library of a higher educational institution and knowledge in Library settings and standards.


TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointments will be made on a two-year contract, with possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment equal up to  15% for post (1); and 10% for posts (2) and (3) of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental benefits.  Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
