Heleni Linton Bursary 2017

This Bursary was established in memory of Heleni Linton, an outstanding librarian also worked for Ernst and Young Hong Kong was tragically killed in an air crash in 1991. A memorial account was later established from funds donated by Ernst and Young, by colleagues, and by friends. From December 1992, interest accrued to the account has been used to award a modest annual bursary bearing her name. The beneficiary receivers the bursary at a ceremony held every year at the association's annual general meeting.

The bursary is awarded on a competitive basis in full or part-time students of library and information science to assist in their studies. It might help with course fees, short sabbaticals, research materials costs, conference attendance, and the like. Applications for the Bursary, which amounts to HK$5,000, will be assessed by considering the potential applicability and contribution of the proposal to library and information science in our region and the likely impact of the Bursary on the career of the applicant. Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2018

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited ("HKSI") is the Government's delivery agent of elite sports training systems.  The HKSI's mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Asian and Olympic Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:

RESEARCH & SPORTS INFORMATION OFFICER

THE JOB

Reporting to the Assistant Research & Sports Information Manager of the Sports Information Centre, the Research & Sports Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

 - To be responsible for the technical services of Sports Information Centre (SIC) at HKSIL, including cataloguing and classification of all library materials - not only but includes monographies, AV materials and electronic items;
 - To manage the acquisition of library materials, preparation of statistical reports, manage database and web sites etc.;
 - To assist in research and analyses of changes and developments, both local and overseas, relating to elite sports training;
 - To assist in the publication and dissemination of sports results and research findings;
 - To assist in organising conferences and symposiums; and
 - To supervise subordinate staff.

THE REQUIREMENTS

 - A university degree or diploma in library and information science, social science, sport studies, research methodology, information management or a relevant discipline;
 - A minimum of 2 years' relevant working experience;
 - Preferably with knowledge of sports and sports systems in Hong Kong;
 - Hand-on experience with MARC, AACR2, RDA and Library of Congress subject heading system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Chinese word processing; knowledge in webpage design and image scanning is an advantage;
 - Good command of both verbal and written English and Chinese; ability to speak Putonghua is an advantage;
 - Attention to detail, ability to work independently and as a part of a team;
 - Shift duties are required;
 - Experience in staff supervision; and
 - Awareness/ knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong are an added advantage.
