Heleni Linton Bursary 2017

This Bursary was established in memory of Heleni Linton, an outstanding librarian also worked for Ernst and Young Hong Kong was tragically killed in an air crash in 1991. A memorial account was later established from funds donated by Ernst and Young, by colleagues, and by friends. From December 1992, interest accrued to the account has been used to award a modest annual bursary bearing her name. The beneficiary receivers the bursary at a ceremony held every year at the association's annual general meeting.

The bursary is awarded on a competitive basis in full or part-time students of library and information science to assist in their studies. It might help with course fees, short sabbaticals, research materials costs, conference attendance, and the like. Applications for the Bursary, which amounts to HK$5,000, will be assessed by considering the potential applicability and contribution of the proposal to library and information science in our region and the likely impact of the Bursary on the career of the applicant. Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2018

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. HSMC - Library Assistant (Research and Learning Support)  (Ref: LA (LIB) 2017-07-14)

Responsibilities:

- Provide assistance in organizing library workshops, creating online materials, updating subject guides and managing library website;
- Provide assistance in developing promotional plans and preparing library newsletter to market library resources and services;
- Prepare notices, posters and displays for library events;
- Manage library records and prepare statistical reports on library activities;
- Participate in library-wide events such as library orientation and exhibition; and
- Perform duties at service counters.


Applicants should:

- Possess a recognized university degree and certificate for library assistants or equivalent;
- Have general skills in information search and experience in providing user services in an academic library;
- Have good command of written and spoken both English and Chinese;
- Have good organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to manage complex activities and monitor detailed work accurately;
- Have knowledge of Chinese and English word processing spreadsheets, office software applications, library management systems, graphic design and website development; and
- Be responsible with positive customer care attitudes and have the ability to work independently.


The appointee will be required to work shifts in evenings, on weekends and public holidays. Candidates with work experience in the tertiary education sector will be an advantage.
