Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2018

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. VOCATIONAL TRAINING COUNCIL

Term / Temporary Executive Assistant II (Library Service)
(Immediately required)

VTC Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan),
Learning Resources Centre

Major duties:

(a)    To provide circulation and information counter services;
(b)    To handle the inter-library loan services among VTC campuses and other organizations if required;
(c)    To perform book shelving, shelf-reading and book removal if necessary;
(d)    To provide support in processing different types of materials, including books, periodicals, multi-media items, etc.
(e)    To assist in cataloguing, acquisition and serial management for library materials;
(f)    To assist in updating the imaging databases and preparing the library monthly statistics;
(g)    To regularly check the maintenance service for equipment and update the inventory record; and assisting in regular weeding exercise of library collection;
(h)    To answer general enquiries and carry out library and general clerical duties.

Requirements:

1    1.1    5 subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) at Grade E / Level 2 or above including English Language (Syllabus B*, Chinese Language and Mathematics, or equivalent; OR
      1.2    A combination of results in 5 subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination at level 2 or above in New Senior Secondary subjects/ "Attained" or above in Applied Learning subjects / Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; and the 5 subjects should include English Language*, Chinese Language and Mathematics; OR
      1.3    A recognized Certificate/ Diploma/ Foundation Diploma/ Foundation Certificate, or Project Yi Jin;
2    Preferably with
              a recognized certificate / diploma in library or information studies, or equivalent;
3    Library-related work experienced is preferred;
4    Proficiency in the use of computer application software, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Chinese Word Processing;
5    Good communication and interpersonal skills;
6    Detail-minded, able to work independently and be a good team player; and
7    Good work initiative and be customer-oriented.

Note:

(1)   Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a Computer Skills Test including MS Excel, MS Word and Chinese Word Processing, and pass in the Computer Skills Test.

(2)   The successful appointee(s) may be required to work irregular hours if necessary.

Applicants not invited for interview within 10 weeks from the closing date may consider their applications unsuccessful.
