Hong Kong Library Association Biennial Award 2018

This award was established by the Hong Kong Library Association in 2010. The Association is committed to provide comprehensive professional support to its members. This Award is hence set up to address the professional development needs of eligible Full Members of the Association who are practicing at paraprofessional to middle professional levels in the library and information fields. Through this Award, the Association will support the professional development of the awardees, such as conference or workshop attendances, overseas professional visits, preparation of a scholarly publication or any professional activities, etc., which are otherwise unlikely to be sponsored by their employers, nor by the other scholarships or awards currently offered by the Association. Established by the Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has five academic units, namely the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, School of Education & Languages, School of Science & Technology, and the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional & Continuing Education.  Through them, we provide full-time and part-time programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate, and sub-degree levels.

Today we have over 9,500 full-time and 10,000 part-time students in the four Schools at the OUHK with about 220 programmes of studies.  In addition, there are about 2,500 full-time/part-time students studying in our extension arm.  The OUHK spirit is a culmination of a relentless pursuit of academic excellence and a creative approach to learning and teaching.  Reaching out to our next generation and across the borders through advanced web technologies has been our principal goal in the past years.

We are now inviting application(s) for the following post in the Library:

Part-time Library Assistants (Ref.: 17-PTLA-296-HKLA)

Duties
The appointees are responsible for the following duties:
i)    To perform duties related to the circulation services of the Library; and
ii)    To be responsible for the opening and closing of the Library.

The working hours will normally be between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on weekday evenings, and between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Requirements
Applicants are required to possess the following:
i)    At least 5 subjects with Level 2 in HKDSE or equivalent, including English & Chinese languages and Mathematics;
ii)    Knowledge of library; and
iii)    Preferably with related working experience.

Applicants should indicate the results of HKDSE (or equivalent qualifications) in their applications.

Terms of Appointment
Successful candidates will be appointed on a temporary part-time fixed term contract.  Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
