- In 2008, The Hong Kong Library Association celebrates its 50th Anniversary! To commemorate this event, the HKLA will be hosting an international conference "Looking Back, Moving Forward: Asian Libraries in the World of Information", focusing on the key issues and challenges which face libraries in Asia today. The main themes covered by the conference will be:
- - Asian Digital Libraries
- Digitisation, Preservation and Conservation Initiatives - Libraries, Learning and Language - Library Buildings and Learning Spaces - The Internet, Social Networking, Web 2.0 and Libraries - Learning Technologies and Libraries - Issues in Library Management - Library Professional Development in Asia The HKLA 50th Anniversary Conference will bring together speakers and participants from across the region and the world to discuss and debate these issues. In addition, in recognition of the 50 years of the HKLA, we will be hosting a number of presentations and other events on the history and development of libraries and librarianship in Hong Kong. The conference will be held over two days - the 4th and 5th November 2008 - at the Hong Kong Central Library, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. This is the first call for papers to be presented at the HKLA 50th Anniversary Conference. You are invited to submit a paper on a topic related to the above themes for presentation at the Conference. An abstract of your proposed paper of approximately 500 words is to be submitted together with your contact details to the HKLA 50th Anniversary Conference Secretariat by Friday the 23rd May 2008. All applicants will be notified by early June of the acceptance of their paper, and full papers will be required for submission for inclusion in the Proceedings by the end of September. Papers may be submitted and presented in either English or Chinese. Mandarin/English translation will be available during the Conference.
