23 Things: How Librarians Learned to Love Web 2.0 through a Unique Staff Development Program
Derek Whitehead Director of Information Resources, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia
Friday 17th April 2009 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon M1603 Li Ka Shing Tower The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
The talk outlines the Web 2.0 staff development which was implemented in 2007 and 2008 at an Australian university - learning from the experience of public libraries – and which achieved 100% participation and 80% completion. The presentation looks critically at how this was done, problems and issues which arose, and the impact and benefit over the longer term. The viewpoint is committed - this is a great thing for libraries too (and others too) - but not without some scepticism.
Derek Whitehead is the Director of Information Resources at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. He is the current President of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and the Chair of the Australian Digital Alliance, an Australian copyright user lobby group. Derek was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2002 for his contribution and involvement with libraries and the Internet.
