Workshop for Overseas Librarians 2009

The Workshop for Overseas Librarians 2009, jointly organized by the Korea Foundation and the National Library of Korea, will be held in Seoul from October 18 to 25, 2009. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance overseas librarians’ knowledge of Korea and thus to improve the management of Korean studies resources in general. 

[Program Outline]

-  Dates: October 18 ~ October 25, 2009 (8 days) 
-  Venue: Librarian Training Center, The National Library of Korea, Seoul, Korea
-  Number of Participants: 15~20 (tentative)
-  Program: This year’s program may vary according to the specific needs of the participants. However, it will include: 1) Cataloging/Searching Korea related resources; 2) Introduction of Korean language policy/Romanization; 3) Visits to leading libraries and other related organizations and meetings with colleague librarians in Korea; and 4) Tour of cultural and academic sites outside Seoul.
-  Eligibility:
  - Overseas Librarians whose work is related to Korean Studies/East Asian Studies (Korean nationals should have foreign residency or citizenship.)
  - Librarians whose command of English is above fair, and thus have no problem in understanding lectures in English.
  - Librarians whose physical health is suitable for group activities under the tight week-long schedule.

- Selection of Participants: If the number of applicants exceeds our original plan, the Korea Foundation and the National Library of Korea may select the participants according to the following criteria: 
  - Necessity of Korea-related information for the candidates 
  - Relevance of the workshop to the candidates/institutions 
  - Regional distribution 
  - Expected commitment of the institution to the Korea related materials 
-  Result Notification: July17, 2009 

[Terms and Conditions]

The organizers will provide:  
  - Accommodation, meals and ground transportation in Korea 
  - Materials related to lectures and official activities  
  - Travel insurance during the stay in Korea 
-  Participants responsibility: International airfares 
-  Lectures will be delivered in English (or simultaneous English interpretation)
