Academic Libraries in the Era of Globalization

Dr Anthony Ferguson, former University Librarian of the University of Hong Kong and one of the Honorary Fellow of HKLA, will give a talk on Academic Libraries in the Era of Globalization.

Date: 8 May 2012
Time: 6:30 pm
Venue: eLearning Lab, G/F, Main Library, the University of Hong Kong

Dr Ferguson will begin his presentation with a discussion of what is meant by globalization generally, its causes, and those factors which oppose its expansion.  He then will discuss the globalization and libraries.  This is followed by an examination of the top 20 trends currently found or emerging in North American academic libraries within several categories, e.g., collection development/acquisitions, public service, library space/buildings, technical service, and library staffing/organization.   He then discusses the one theme which cuts across all of these trends and the degree to which he believes the top 20 trends are relevant to libraries in the Asia Pacific region.

Registration is not required.
