Membership

Membership categories have been established on the basis that the Association is essentially a professional organization for librarians and those engaged in information work.

Honorary Fellows (榮譽會士)

    Those who have rendered outstanding service to librarianship or information work or to the Association, and are elected to this honour by a unanimous vote of the Council to be ratified by a two-thirds majority vote of any General Meeting.

Fellows (會士)

Full members (專業會員)

    Those who have acquired a qualification in librarianship or information studies recognised by the relevant official professional association of the country in which that qualification is validated or qualifications recognized by the HKLA Council. Associate members who have gained the required academic qualification and working experience may also apply for Full Membership (please use the Membership Renewal Form for application for change of membership type).

Associate members (副專業會員)

    Those who are employed or otherwise actively engaged in any aspect of library/information related work, e.g. graduates without library qualifications. Associate members who have gained the required academic qualification and work experience may also apply to change to Full Membership (please use the Membership Renewal Form for application for change of membership type).

Corresponding members (通訊會員)

    Those who used to be eligible for personal members but are not actively engaged in libraries or related work now.

Student members (學生會員)

    Those who are currently enrolled in certificate programmes for library assistants, diploma programmes in librarianship or other programmes in librarianship or information studies.

Institutional members (團體會員)

    Those which are libraries, societies, corporate bodies or organisations which maintain or are interested in libraries or information services. Each names one representative.

    The only practical difference between the above categories of membership is that one must be a full member in order to be eligible to vote or stand for office in the Association.

  5. With effect from 1 January 2015, HKLA Institutional Members can place up to two (2) job advertisements per calendar year on the HKLA vacancies page at no charge.For the third and every subsequent advertisement of each calendar year, a charge of HK$250 will be levied.
