The Hong Kong Baptist University Library has won the "Most Innovative Use of Staff Modules" award from the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III), a company that has been exclusively involved with library automation and libraries since 1978. The company's integrated library system is installed in more than four thousands libraries of all types and sizes around the world, including all eight UGC institution libraries and several special libraries in Hong Kong.
Instituted for the very first time by III, the awards were designed to recognize innovative efforts of user libraries in four categories. Winners of the categories are:
The project submitted by the HKBU Library for the competition was developed to facilitate the online selection of English language books for purchase consideration through the use of "title slips" (sometimes referred to as "form selections"). In addition, the project has a collection assessment component through which staff could check HKBU collection holdings against the holdings of other libraries in a particular subject area or grouping in order to determine the strength or weakness of the collection in question. The project won the award on the criteria of (1) level of multi-operation integration; (2) application of management information; and (3) special projects applications. The development of this award winning project was accomplished through the team efforts of Library staff responsible for functions related to Acquisitions, Collection Services, and Systems. The goals are to continuously streamline library operations and improve services.
