After an extensive period of planning and preparation, the Chinese Medicine Library (CML) of Hong Kong Baptist University was officially opened to members of the University community in August 2001. It is the first dedicated library with a focus on Chinese medicine in the universities of Hong Kong established to meet the growing information demand in the development of Chinese medicine and to provide quality information resources and services in support of the University's teaching, learning and research activities.
CML is located on level 2 of the HKBU Jockey Club School of Chinese Medicine Building, 7 Hong Kong Baptist University Road. It has a floor space of 5000 square feet, 70 seats, a multimedia room, a group study room, and a user education & computer room.
The library collection has over 12,000 volumes of Chinese medicine printed books and journals, and a growing collection of multimedia materials and e-books. There are over twenty Chinese medicine related electronic databases including full text databases available to the University community. One noteworthy resource is "A Complete Collection of Traditional Texts on Chinese Materia Medica." This set of 403 volumes includes more than 800 classic works and 10,000 articles on Chinese materia medica. The Library is honoured to have received a special serial designation No. 1 for acquiring this collection. The electronic Chinese medicine homepage <http://www.hkbu.edu.hk/libcm> created by the Library, has links to over 230 quality Chinese Medicine related Internet resources.
In order to celebrate the inauguration of the Jockey Club School of Chinese Medicine Building on March 8, 2002, several exhibitions will be held in the Chinese Medicine Library. They are:
