Message from the President

Hong Kong has been actively seeking new directions of development following the Asian Financial Crisis.  Many changes and reforms are being introduced with the aim of facilitating Hong Kong's migration to a knowledge economy.  The cornerstones of the new economy will include an education system that encourages creativity and life-long learning, an efficient information infrastructure and services, and a well-defined set of intellectual property laws.  All these areas are currently under review and reform.

Librarians’ jobs are closely related with the above three aspects.  In this process of rapid changes, we should prepare ourselves for new challenges, and progress on a par with our society and economy.  The Association will continue to organize professional activities that can help our members to appreciate the new environment.  At the same time, we hope that our voices can be better heard in the society.  We look forward to your participation in and support for the Association's activities.  We strongly believe that librarians will become valuable partners for any organization in the emerging global knowledge economy.
