JULAC-HKCAN Seminar & Opening

After four years of hard work and meaningful collaboration amongst the university libraries, the JULAC-Hong Kong Chinese Name Authority (HKCAN) Database, initiated by Lingnan University Library back in 1999, has finally come to fruition and is now fully operational.

To celebrate the occasion, JULAC launched a 1-day seminar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library on 4th October 2002, with internationally acclaimed guest speakers from the United States to deliver keynote speeches:

1. Dr. Barbara TILLETT (Library of Congress)
2. Ms. Joan ALIPRAND (Senior Analyst, RLG; Secretary of UniCODE Consortium)
3. Ms. Charlene CHOU (Serials Cataloguer, Columbia University Libraries; Member of MARBI Multilingual Task Force)
The HKCAN Seminar was generously sponsored by Innovative Interface, Inc. and TTS Co., Ltd. (Taiwan) and received overwhelming responses.  More than 130 participants joined the seminar, with an attendance rate of over 94%.  Trial use of the JULAC-HKCAN Database was also arranged for the seminar participants in the User Education Room of the Chinese University Library throughout  the second half of the seminar.
