Dr Samson Soong – New University Librarian at HKUST
Dr. Samson Soong joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
on July 1, 2003. In addition to a master's degree in library science from
Catholic University of America, he also holds a PhD degree in political science
from Rutgers University, an MBA degree also from Rutgers, an MA degree in
international relations from Tufts University, as well as a BA degree in
political science from National Taiwan University.
Dr. Soong has had over 30 years of university library experiences. He came
to Hong Kong from Rutgers University, New Jersey, where he had been Associate
University Librarian for Administrative Services for a large research library
system of 18 libraries since 1993. Over his years at Rutgers, he had held
increasingly responsible library management positions, including Head of
Bibliographic Control Department, Director of Central Technical Services,
and Acting Associate University Librarian for Technical and Automated Services.
Prior to joining Rutgers in 1971, he worked in an area study library at Harvard
University.
In his new capacity as University Librarian at HKUST, Dr. Soong looks forward
to working with fellow librarians in Hong Kong in the years ahead.
