Seminar on Handling Chinese-Language Bibliographic Data: a North American Perspective


Professor Clément Arsenault, École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l’information, Université de Montréal, Canada, was to invited to give a seminar titled "Handling of Chinese-language Bibliographic Data in a North American Context" at the Hong Kong Central Library on 22 August 2003.  

This Seminar was jointly presently by Lingnan University Library and the Hong Kong Library Association.  It received over 70 attendees, representing various local academic and public libraries, as well as information centres. 

Prof. Arsenault is a specialist in cataloguing and online searching, and is fluent in English, French and Mandarin.  He has published numerous French and English articles in the field of cataloguing and information retrieval under a multi-lingual and multi-script context.    To recapture the gist of the talk, please click here for the powerpoint presentation.

Right after the seminar, Prof. Arsenault was invited to present another paper of his recent research, "Retrieval of Chinese-language Records in OPACs" at the 9th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics in Beijing.
